Coronavirus in Schools
Throughout the past year and a half, Coronavirus has changed the way we approach and view almost everything. The return to school in the Autumn is usually a time of excitement, stationary and new school uniforms. For the past two years, back to school has caused a lot of panic and concern in parents, students, and teachers alike. This article highlights the two main problems faced by schools this year, and solutions to help protect those returning to school in September.
Problems facing Schools in 2021
One of the main problems faced by schools is ventilation. On 17th August, BBC News wrote of six different Education Unions having written to England’s Education Secretary to warn of the increase in cases this Autumn and asking for funding for CO2 monitors and Particle Filtering Technology.1 A later article from the BBC writes of 300,000 CO2 monitors being pledged to schools across the country. The Department of Education has stated that they will be used to help members of staff better understand where to improve air flow within the school buildings.2
Another problem facing schools is Coronavirus itself. Air purifiers and ultraviolet lights are to be tested in schools in a £1.75m trial aimed at reducing the spread of Covid-19 in classrooms.3 This will include 30 Primary schools in Bradford, and if the trial is successful then the programme could be rolled out nationwide.
